The new Food Safety Management System Certification Scheme - FSSC 22000 - has been developed for organizations involved in the food chain.

Assessment and audits under the FSSC 22000 scheme are based on an approach to processes. Evaluators observe how one process affects another. The fundamental requirements of this approach are the existence of an effective food safety management system.

The FSSC 22000 scheme is the perfect scheme for certifying a food safety management system. It is based on the ISO 22000 standard, which is the global standard for the Food Safety Management System, and the ISO / TS 22002 standard, which sets out specific requirements for pre-preparation programs.

ISO 22000: 2005 standard does not specify requirements for pre-preparation programs. This is the main reason why it was not recognized by GFSI. An alternative scheme has therefore been developed where ISO 22000 and ISO / TS 22002 (which set specific requirements for pre-preparation programs) are used jointly. This scheme is FSSC 22000, which is also recognized by GFSI.

To put it simply, FSSC22000 = ISO 22000 + ISO / TS 22002.
