The UK Retail Consortium has set a global food safety standard - one common standard for assessing retail supply companies. Although the standard is developed in the UK, it is recognized as an international standard.
The seventh edition of the standards is currently in force, which has been significantly modified and harmonized with the requirements of EU legislation.
BRC is classified into 5 standards by direction:
BRC Global Standard for Food Safety
BRC Global Standard for Storage and Distribution
BRC Global Standard for Packaging and Packaging Materials
BRC Global Standard for Consumer Products
BRC Global Standard for Agents and Brokers
The basic requirements of the BRC-Global Food Safety Standard include a risk-based approach by the organization, use and implementation of the HACCP system, documented and effective quality management system, control of production environment standards, product, processes and personnel.
Advantages of BRC standards:
Compliance with the BRC-Global Food Safety Standard gives a significant advantage to the food supplier. The standard will help you to avoid the ambiguity and delays of multiple audits, as well as the need to duplicate the same information for different clients.
The certificate confirms the technical competence and helps the trader, the brand owner and the retailer to fulfill the legal obligations imposed on them. The certificate also guarantees safe and quality food for the customer.
Who can use BRC?
The BRC standards were developed with the help of a retail network to meet British, high-level legislative and regulatory requirements and to ensure a high level of customer protection.
The BRC-Global Food Safety Standard is mainly needed by companies that operate in a difficult-to-access market in the UK, regardless of the country of origin of the products or products they produce. In many cases, certification according to the BRC-Global Food Safety Standard is a prerequisite for placing products in the UK retail chain.
