We are USULI, a fashion startup from Georgia. Our mission is to not only create a beautiful and original line of footwear, but to do it while having a positive impact on the environment. The fashion industry is one of the leading producers of waste, and it is often accused of contributing to worldwide pollution and environmental damages. That’s why we at USULI are seeking to do our part to help save the environment and give the fashion industry a better reputation. Our products are created with leftover fabrics and scraps and old blankets from the period of Soviet Union, much like those that will be donated by your program.
In fact, the word “USULI” is an old Georgian word which means beautiful, or graceful. We identify with this not only because our products are beautiful, but also because we want to help the world around us. We want to help save the planet by doing our part, while also making our customers feel empowered and beautiful themselves. We have always strived to make something valuable from materials or supplies that others had deemed surplus, and earlier this year we finally decided to take the plunge and do it.
We made our first prototypes and models from recycled fabric and leather before the pandemic reached critical levels, and like many others, we were forced to stop operations for months. Now, although the pandemic is still damaging our country, we have decided that we have a responsibility to stay true to our values and help bring a beam of positivity to what has been a dark year.
We have continued making shoes that are both versatile and aesthetically pleasing. Our shoes can be worn by anyone, because we considered all generations when designing different shoe models. By doing this, we want to be as inclusive as possible to spread our message to our customers.
As a women-owned business, we also have an extra weight on our shoulders, because it is often difficult to compete with larger businesses in a male-dominated society, but we are prepared for the challenge.
