Description

Founded in 1915 in the picturesque setting overlooking the renowned Alazani Valley, Telavi Wine Cellar has been blending innovation with a sense of history for over a century, remaining faithful to the traditional Georgian 8,000-year-old method of winemaking, while adapting to the modern-day techniques and expertise.
Telavi Wine Cellar, also known as MARANI (the Georgian word for a wine cellar), has established itself as a leading winery by producing the finest wines that embody the personality and diversity of local viticulture and terroir, highlighting our determination to present unambiguously Georgian products to the most refined, and discerning global palate.
Relentless improvement has been part of Telavi Wine Cellar from her very foundation, which continues to this day. Contemporary technologies, including stainless steel insulated tanks, pneumatic presses, gentle movement pumps, and a comprehensive temperature control system, coexist alongside oak vats, barriques, and traditional Georgian clay vessels known as Qvevri, which are buried in the earthen floor of our esteemed cellar.
One of the cornerstones ensuring the excellence of our wines, are our estate owned vineyards stretching over 350 hectares in three different areas across the Alazani River Valley. The largest - our Kondoli Vineyards - have been cultivated for generations. In his book of 1745 - “Life of Georgia”, the famous Georgian historian Vakhushti Batonishvili mentioned Kondoli Vineyards as a source of noble wines. For almost three centuries these vines have been the benchmark of quality, giving rise to the best wines of Kakheti region. Situated on the right bank of the Alazani River, at an altitude of 350-450 meters above sea level, Kondoli Vineyards cover over 300 hectares within the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) of Tsinandali. 70% of this vineyard is cultivated with red grapes and 30% with whites. Most of the planted vines are local, indigenous varieties, such as Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, Alexandrouli, Mtsvane and Kisi. We also dedicate a small area to international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Chardonnay and Riesling.
Our second largest vineyard site, Kudigora, grows solely Saperavi vines on over 30.5 hectares, and is situated on the left bank of Alazani River, in the heart of the famous Kindzmarauli PDO. And our third, and newest Didkure Vineyard, which was planted in the beginning of 2020, is located on the northern slope of the Caucasus mountains. This unique 25-hectare vineyard is home to local, as well as international grape varieties.
By maintaining full control over the entire cycle of winemaking - from the soil to the cellar and to the final product - we ensure that the wines we produce in Georgia, the country hailed as the homeland of wine, reflect a quality we will be proud to present to the world.
The results of this dedication and tender care speak for themselves. Our current product line includes over 80 types of wines, sparkling wines, Chacha and brandy, available in more than 30 countries worldwide. Each year our wines receive international recognition at prestigious wine competitions such as the International Wine Challenge, The International Wine and Spirits Competition, Decanter World Wine Award and Mundus Vini, to name a few.
